Additional
Information
- from 1 October 1998 - new country code 998 in service
- Country code 998 for calls to Uzbekistan became effective after
1 October 1998 (from some areas, the effective date was 1 January
1999). Permissive dialling was in effect with either +7 or +998
until 31 December 1998, 1 January 1999, 1 March 1999 or 1 June 1999,
depending on the source of information (or depending on timetables
of individual communications carriers).
- In most cases, old Uzbekistan numbers of +7 3xx format became
+998 xx (except Naval/Navoi, which changed from +7 436 to +998 79).
- 6-digit subscriber numbers in Tashkent (+7 371 changed to +998
71) were converted to 7-digit numbers by adding the digit '2' beforehand.
7-digit Tashkent subscriber numbers were kept as is.
- Numbering was formerly consistent with the ex-USSR system, where
sum of Area Code plus Subscriber Number tended to be 10 digits.
- Uzbekistan was assigned country code 998 and is presumably departing
from country code 7 (former USSR numbering plan) on some unknown date.
